Police sealed off a main road through Leeds following reports of ‘loud bangs’ last night.

An abandoned black Vauxhall Astra, which had damage to the rear window, was recovered from Luxor Street in Harehills after calls were received at around 6.10pm.

I would appeal to anyone witnessed the incident itself to come forward.

Detective Inspector Paul Hobson

The occupants of the car had left the scene, as did a second small black car which is believed to have been travelling in convoy with the Astra.

Police were at the scene on Roundhay Road between Shepherds Lane and Back Ellas Grove and were expected to remain in place overnight.

Anyone who has any information about the incident is asked contact Leeds CID via 101, quoting 1331 of August 16.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
