Police have released a CCTV image of a robber who fled empty-handed after trying to hold up a betting shop with a weapon wrapped in a plastic bag.

The man walked into Ladbrokes on Easterly Road, Oakwood, on the evening of Sunday, March 8, and demanded cash from a staff member while brandishing the weapon in a white bag.

Det Con Kate Hutton, of Leeds CID, said: “After the member of staff refused to hand over any money the suspect fled the store and police were called.

“Fortunately, the staff member wasn’t injured in the robbery but has been left understandably shaken by the incident and it’s important we identify this man.

“While you cannot see his entire face the CCTV is good quality and I believe someone will know who this man is.”

The robber was white, in his late twenties, around 6ft 4ins tall and of medium build. He was wearing a grey deerstalker-style hat with the ear flaps down and a scarf across his face.

Anyone with information should call Det Con Hutton via 101, quoting crime reference number 13150094456.
