A fugitive criminal from Leeds who sparked a seven-year international manhunt is facing nine more years behind bars after being caught.

Brian Waite, 43, from Gipton, pleaded guilty to escaping from lawful custody and passport offences at Woolwich Crown Court on Friday.

He was sentenced to 30 months in prison, which will be added to the remainder of his 11-year sentence for robbery.

Waite had been at large for seven years after escaping from North Sea Camp in Lincolnshire three years after being jailed for stealing £25,000 from a Securicor van in Cardiff in 2003.

He used false passports in six different identities to travel the world before being arrested in Lewisham, London, last year.
