Leeds parents feared for baby's life as Mercedes rammed and shotgun threat

Mohammed Butt, 25, was driving a BMW 5 series when he twice rammed into his cousin’s Mercedes and pointed an imitation sawn-off shotgun at them and threatened them in Beeston.

The 14-month-old baby suffered a cut eye as a result of the car ramming at the junction of Atha Street and Cross Flatts Grove at around 9pm on November 22 2016.

The court heard Butt, of Colwyn Road, Beeston, may have been jealous because cousin Fike Butt and his wife Sima Kausa had started a new business.

A jury convicted Butt of dangerous driving and two charges of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. Mitigating, Simon Batiste said said Butt has been recognised as having learning difficulties

Jailing Butt for four years and banning him driving for three years, judge Simon Phillips QC told him: “In short, that evening you set out to terrorise them and you used the BMW 5 series you were driving as a weapon against the three of them.

“You demonstrated to them you had an item that Fike Butt recognised as a sawn-off double barrelled shotgun...you threatened Fike But that if he got out of the vehicle you would shoot him.”

Judge Phillips added: “Fike Butt and his wife were terrified. They were scared for their lives and that of their young son.”
