A MAN has been jailed for life after being convicted of the murder of a 39-year-old man in Hull.

Louis Fowler, 20, killed Jason Kowalski in a knife attack on Westbourne Avenue in Hull on February 2 this year.

Fowler, who lived on Westbourne Avenune at the time, was convicted of murder by a jury at Hull Crown Court after a trial.

He was sentenced to life today (Friday August 5) and will serve a minimum of 22 years in prison.

After the sentencing, Detective Chief Insp Wendy North said: “Louis Fowler, at 20 years of age, took no responsibility for his own life or his behaviour during the weekend that led up to this tragic incident. He blamed those who were closest to him for what he perceived to be a ‘hard life’.

“He wallowed in self pity on that first day in his new flat and then started a confrontation over an alarm sounding which he escalated beyond all proportions.

“Faced with the anger of Fowler, knife in hand, having threatened to kick the door in, bravely stepped forward to protect his friends and received a fatal stab wound.

“The natural sense of responsibility and bravery shown by Jason in the face of danger was no surprise to those who knew him. Our thoughts are with Jason’s family as they try to move forward and come to terms with their loss.”
