A burglar sneaked into the Leeds house of an elderly woman while she was watching television with headphones on.

The thief forced the latch on the front door of the property on Ashby View in Bramley before stealing jewellery, a chequebook, passports and personal documents from a bedroom.

The crook escaped before the woman, who is in her eighties, realised what had happened.

PC Jenni MacDonald, of Leeds neighbourhood crime team, said: “It is appalling that someone would target the home of an elderly and vulnerable victim like this.

“We would like to hear from anyone who saw anyone in the area around the time of the incident or who has any information that could assist the investigation.”

The incident happened between 6pm and 10pm on Tuesday, July 7.

PC MacDonald added: “Officers from the local neighbourhood policing team have been made aware and have increased patrols in the area and crime prevention officers are also offering the victim support.”

Anyone with information should contact PC MacDonald at Weetwood police station via 101 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
