An armed robber left a trail of destruction after attacking a betting shop with a hammer.

The man walked into William Hill on Tong Road, Armley, on Sunday evening before smashing the counter glass.

As staff took refuge in a room at the back of the shop, he made off with a quantity of cash.

No-one was hurt in the incident, which took place at about 6.20pm.

The robber was white, aged about 25 to 30 and about 5ft 10ins tall. He was wearing a deerstalker-style hat, a scarf covering his face and dark clothing.
