A man has been charged with burgling a Leeds church after being caught inside by police.

Officers arrived at the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Cookridge within minutes of a call from a witness last night.

The caller had reported seeing a man breaking into the church hall in Otley Old Road.

Police said today that a 19-year-old man from Beeston had been charged with the burglary.

A spokesman said the man was due to appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court on July 7 and had been made the subject of a curfew.
