An attempted armed robbery at north Leeds post office was foiled after the panic alarm was triggered and the gun-wielding criminal fled empty-handed.

West Yorkshire Police are appealing for information about the failed robbery attempt at the Montreal Avenue Post Office, in Harrogate Road, Chapel Allerton.

A spokesman said: “At about 5.15pm yesterday, a male, who was armed with a black handgun and had his face covered, entered the shop and threatened staff and customers and demanded cash.

“The panic alarm was triggered and the male ran from the shop empty-handed up Church Lane.”
