Club-lovers have been flocking to a new fitness class at a city leisure centre.

With a vibe more akin to a night on the town than an exercise session, Clubbercise has hit the ground running at Rothwell Leisure Centre.

In dimmed lighting participants exercise to a sound track of club anthems accompanied by disco lights and even glow sticks that can be bought for £3 at reception.

Councillor Lisa Mulherin, Leeds City Council’s executive member for health, wellbeing and adults, said: “Our first Clubbercise class at Rothwell Leisure Centre was absolutely packed, and with that in mind, we would ask people to book their places as soon as possible.”

People can join in simple dance routines in the sessions which are held every Wednesday from 7.45pm to 8.45pm and every Friday from 7pm to 8pm.

Councillor Mulherin said: “We are always looking at innovative ways to encourage more people to exercise regularly and stay fit, and I have to say that our new Clubbercise class at Rothwell Leisure Centre has certainly attracted a lot of positive interest which is fantastic.

“Working out to the sounds of classic club anthems, those in the class can enjoy a range of high-energy but easy-to-learn dance routines suitable for people at all different levels, which accompanied by disco lights and glow sticks, really do add some fantastic fun to the evening.”

The sessions are billed as “perfect for anyone who enjoys dancing and especially for beginners who are looking for an entertaining and enjoyable way to start exercising and keep fit.”

Anyone who is interested in booking a place in a Clubbercise session can contact Rothwell Leisure Centre on 0113 3367530, or visit www.leeds.gov.uk/sports/Pages/Rothwell-leisure-centre.aspx.
