The clouds failed to dampen spirits as thousands of people took to the streets of west Leeds to join in the fun at Bramley Carnival.

Carnival Queen Ellie Kerrigan helped to officially start the party by riding through the streets of the town on a motor-trike accompanied by a motorcycle cavalcade.

The 11-year-old, who is due to start West Leeds Academy in September, was joined by four Carnival princesses during the day.

Former Black Lace sensation Michael Dene took centre stage in Bramley Park and performed to the crowds with Triple Dip.
