A children’s television favourite gave a blooming lovely start to a series of sprint and summer events.

Mr Bloom – a character from the BBC’s CBeebies channel – staged a free show at Stockeld Park in Wetherby today, before meeting and greeting 20 lucky prizewinners.

The character, who teaches youngsters about growing fruit and vegetables, also helped plant some pumpkins at the venue in anticipation of its Halloween events later this year.

His appearance paved the way for spring time fun and activities at Stockeld – which will run daily until June 1.

A daily snail race at 3.30pm will be among the attractions.

There will also be the chance to explore, play and discover in the park’s adventure zones, an outdoor roller rink, a maze, go karts, inflatables and indoor games, crafts and activities.

There will also be a Saturday disco from 6pm to 8pm.

Admission charges apply, children under two go free.
