the Olympics has left us all feeling he sporting spirit, and now, Leeds Royal Armouries has brought a historic element of the Games to life.

Equestrian events were some of the most spectacular sports in the ancient Olympic Games, with chariot racing as one of the most dangerous and popular. Spectators gathered to watch as magnificent horses raced charioteers in wheeled carts around the track, with only the bravest and most skilled able to finish the hairpin events.

At the Armouries yesterday, (August 25) Atkinson Action Horses presented their daredevil interpretation of the ancient sport.

The thrilling horse shows will continue over the bank holiday weekend with a spectacular battle between Medieval Saxon and Norman warriors to mark the 950th anniversary of the battle of Hastings.
