Celebrating ten years on indie scene

One of the city's longest running independent music bars is celebrating its tenth birthday with a party tonight.

While new bars, new trends and cocktail classes come and go, Verve on Merrion Street, stayed true to its own values and nature.

It is thought to be the only place in Leeds to showcase free live music four nights a week and a weekly comedy night as well, in the underground Mariachi bar and is also famous for its love of tequila, rock and roll and no airs and graces atmosphere.

Phil Harrison, owner of Verve said: “We’re really proud of Verve’s undecadent, friendly party that our guests can enjoy right through to the early hours seven nights a week. What other venue in Leeds hosts free live music and comedy five nights a week?

“Our great team has an infectious upbeat personality that everyone loves when they visit Verve.”

The party tonight is an open invitation to gig-goers and tequila lovers.

It gets started from 7pm, perfect for a stop off after work, with birthday shots, tequila-tastic of course, and there is a unique birthday drinks menu all night.

Upstairs the venue will be playing the best of the classics from over the past decade, think AC-DC and Franz Ferdinand, and from 9pm there will be live music in the Mariachi Bar from their regulars from Double Denim.

As well as attracting the off beat crown for the last ten years, it has recently had an influx of new customers with a new outdoor seating area on the pedestrianised section of Merrion Street which has recently become renowned for the popular Bank Holiday Merrion Street Festival.

Verve is sister venue to Mean-Eyed Cat Bar, Tiki Hideaway and Call Lane Social
