Hundreds of families enjoyed a magical day of fun activities when CBeebies came to the city.

Shoppers at Trinity Leeds were treated to a series of dazzling dance performances from local troupes while youngsters took part in craft workshops plus dance and storytelling sessions. Little ones also came face to face with some of their favourite CBeebies presenters.

The Dancing Beebies event was held to celebrate the forthcoming CBeebies Elves And The Shoemaker – a programme featuring Leeds’ own Northern Ballet’s latest children’s production, which will be shown on the kids’ TV channel on Easter Monday at 5pm.

David Nixon OBE, Artistic Director of Northern Ballet said: “Northern Ballet is committed to taking high quality ballet to a wide and diverse audience and we are extremely proud of our children’s ballets which have introduced the joy of dance to a very young audience.

“Our partnership with the BBC through the CBeebies programmes has enabled us to reach many more people and perfectly complements our live theatre performances.”

CBeebies Elves and the Shoemaker follows in the footsteps of previous Northern Ballet productions which have been specially filmed by the children’s channel and screened at Easter – Three Little Pigs and Ugly Duckling, which won a Children’s Bafta in 2013 for Best Pre-School Live Action programme.

Kay Benbow, acting director of BBC Children’s and controller of CBeebies, said: “The Easter show has been a huge success over the past couple of years and it is fantastic that we are able to open up the world of dance to our young audience.”
