Mobile stock room a big hit

LEEDS-based self-storage company is lining up to be a big hit on the high street thanks to its invention of what is thought to be the country's first 'mobile stock room'.

River Island is the first retailer to complete a successful trial with the innovative alternative to what it describes as "unwieldy and unsightly freight storage containers" that have traditionally been the only way to store excess stock and accommodate deliveries for many retailers and out of town shopping malls.

The Store Room, which is based at Millshaw, Beeston, has spent two years designing the state-of-the-art, mobile stockroom that's fully alarmed and boasts a patented hydraulic system which enables it to be dropped off or picked up within minutes.

Following the River Island trial, the retailer has just signed up to use the unit for the next six months.

Meanwhile, The Store Room has ordered another 50 units to keep up with demand from other retailers, including Leeds-based supermarket group Asda.

Paul Siner, spokesperson for The Store Room, said: "Our system is fully weatherproof, includes 1,100 cubic feet of space, includes lights and hanging rails and includes an alarm."
