Dozens of jobs could be lost at one of the Batley’s biggest employers.
Fox’s Biscuits is looking at making up to 80 of the 910 people it currently employs redundant.
The jobs would be lost at the Batley factory and a 45-day consultation period is now underway with managers, employees and representatives of the Bakers Food and Allied Workers Union.
A spokesman for Fox’s parent company, the 2 Sisters Food Group, said they would be looking at all “alternative options” including redeployments and voluntary redundancies.
The spokesman said: “We can confirm we have entered into a period of consultation with some of our colleagues at our site in Batley.
“It is far too early to say what impact this will have, but some roles will regrettably be at risk of redundancy.
“However, we will be working hard with colleagues to minimise the impact of our proposals and look at all alternative options, including voluntary redundancy, redeployments and the creation of some new roles.”
A representative from the Bakers Food and Allied Workers Union said staff were told about the cuts on Wednesday and confirmed there would be a 45-day consultation period.
