Co-ops are urged to get involved

THE search is on for the country’s best co-operative businesses.

The Co-operative Awards 2012 have been launched to recognise the achievements of the UK’s most pioneering and inspirational co-operators.

Co-operatives UK has launched the initiative during the United Nations International Year of Co-operatives.

Entries need to be in by the September 10 deadline and a shortlist will be announced on September 28.

Categories include The #coops2012 Award for the co-operative that has actively used a variety of media to help promote how it is building a better world through co-operation during 2012, the Co-operative of the Year Award for overall excellence in the running of a successful co-operative enterprise, and the Small Co-op Big Achiever honour to celebrate a successful small co-operative with a turnover of less than £5m.

Open to all members of Co-operatives UK, the awards are free to enter.
