Chain goes local to add a fourth bar

A Leeds pub chain has confirmed it's to add a fourth venue to its growing list.

Northbar Ltd will open Alfred on Meanwood's Stonegate Road at the end of the month, promising a "small, neighbourhood bar" modelled on its successful Further North bar in Chapel Allerton.

"We have had a sucessful 2010 with profits well up on the previous 12 months," said director John Gyngell. "We feel 2011 will bring more good news and perhaps another opening.

"There is a wonderful sense of community in Meanwood and we feel that we can connect with the neighbourhood and become an active stakeholder in the revitalisation of this emerging part of the city."

Northbar Ltd – which also owns The Cross Keys on Water Lane and The North Bar on New Briggate in the city centre – has focused on speciality drinks, with more unusual beers on draught.

The company also owns the Mr Frothy mobile bar – all you expect from a pub in a converted ice cream van which can be hired for outdoor events.
