Yorks web conference welcomes 'rock stars'

AN INTERNATIONAL web conference featuring some of Yorkshire's digital trailblazers is to take place in Leeds this weekend.

ThinkVisibility – a one day event at the Alea Casino on Saturday – is drawing visitors from the UK, Europe and the United Arab Emirates.

Tickets are on course to sell out within the next few days.

Aimed at business leaders, web professionals and marketing specialists, ThinkVisibility's talks and seminars will focus upon "the things that get left out of the web design process".

Talks and seminars will explore the latest developments in social media, usability, web analytics, making money online, search engine optimisation (SEO) and online PR.

Speakers include digital PR specialist Karyn Fleeting, managing director of Tinderbox Media in Harrogate.

Her 'Suited and Booted Guide to Corporate Blogging' will explore the ways in which blogs can boost companies' profiles and bottom lines.

Fiona Thomson, a web user experience consultant at SimpleUsability in Leeds, will demonstrate how her company's cutting edge eyetracking software can help convert website visitors into customers.

Zoe Piper, a SEO manager at Aberford-based digital agency Branded3, has been invited to speak about the Google Adwords Content Network.

The line-up also includes high-profile speakers from further afield.

Artur Ortega, a blind computer scientist, is the "accessibility evangelist" for Yahoo! Europe and will be examining the links between accessibility and innovation.

Joost de Valk, a respected authority on blogging and blog optimisation, will be flying in from the Netherlands to reveal his blog SEO strategies.

Julian Sambles, the Head of Audience Development for Telegraph Media Group, is to discuss his work embedding digital activity at the heart of the media group's business model.

This will be ThinkVisibility's second outing, following a successful debut earlier this year.

The first ThinkVisibility event took place in Leeds in March. It was sold out within two weeks of tickets going on sale, was liveblogged by attendees and became a top "trending topic" on Twitter.

The conference has been organised by Leeds-based SEO consultancy Hodgetastic.

Managing director Dom Hodgson said: "We have doubled our capacity, as many would-be attendees were left disappointed last time round.

"There is something here for everyone: our speaker list includes industry 'rock stars', and talks will run alongside Q&A panels and real-life case studies.

"With consumers turning to the internet for their products and services, website owners are increasingly eager to invest in good web design and search-friendly techniques that will benefit their businesses in the long-term."
