Wakefield: Classical chart-topper passes on business tips

Classical chart-topper Tolga Kashif hopes to hit the right note with a firm offering his expertise to young Yorkshire performers.

The composer, conductor and producer is launching his own business, Lightsong Music, from a base at Nostell Priory in Wakefield.

The company will focus on raising Yorkshire's cultural profile and encouraging young talent right across the musical spectrum.

Lightsong Music will also seek to develop partnerships with Yorkshire firms, host a series of events designed to raise the cultural profile of the region and provide music lovers with access to locally-based performances.

Mr Kashif is most famed for his classical album, The Queen Symphony and being musical director for best-selling single, Perfect Day, which raised more than 2m for Children in Need.

He has worked with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, violinist Vanessa Mae and singer Lesley Garrett.

He said: "Since moving to Yorkshire I have been overwhelmed by the support and encouragement I have received from local people and businesses.

"As well as the projects that we will be engaged with on a national level, we also intend to work with the community to raise the profile of the area and champion initiatives that artists and audiences alike will want to be a part of."

Earlier this year, Tolga's album with Tyler Rix went to number one in the classical charts and his previous recording of the symphonic poems of Richard Strauss won criticial acclaim.

His TV and film music includes the Bafta-nominated The First Snow of Winter and a number of leading drama and documentary series.

He is also a trustee of Youth Music, a national music based charity aimed at providing young people with access to music.
