Six Yorkshire firms among UK's top 100
SIX Yorkshire firms feature in the 2009 Sunday Times Deloitte Top Track 100.
Now in its eighth year, the annual league table ranks Britain's 100 biggest private companies by latest sales.
Among the six is Firth Rixson, which has edged into the league table for the first time at No 99, by increasing sales from 493m to 564m. The precision metal engineering company has its head office in Sheffield.
Kelda Group, which owns Yorkshire Water, is the biggest private company across the whole Northeast region, and is ranked 51 nationally with sales of 896m.
Furniture retailer DFS appears at No 94, although its 2008 sales of 584m do not reflect the impact of the credit crunch.
In 70th place is Shepherd Group, builder and manufacturer of York with a turnover of 716m.
Bradford-based car dealer JCT 600 is in 96th place with a turnover of 574m, and in 97th place with a turnover of 571m is Doncaster housing contractor Keepmoat.
The six companies employ 15,000 staff and produced combined sales of 4 billion and profits of 820m in their latest financial years.
