Search is on to find your 'local legend'

A SEARCH has begun to find a small business which qualifies as a 'local legend'.

Bakers, builders, butchers and any other small businesses can enter the competition launched by www.smallbusiness.co.uk, the online advice service run by Vitesse Media plc.

"Many corporations could learn a thing or two from a well-run small business," said site editor Marc Barber.

"Often relying on innovative thinking and operating to a tight cash flow, it's the smaller companies which will revitalise the economy.

"By identifying the very best entrepreneurs, the Local Legends competition recognises and celebrates all that is good about business in the UK today."

Thriving

The competition is open to any UK small business which has a track record of surviving and thriving, and has come to be recognised as a 'Local Legend' by its customers.

Entrants will receive a discount on their business insurance, with a final shortlist set to be put to the public vote to win computer equipment and be named 'Britain's Small Business Local Legend'.

The competition is backed by the National Federation of Enterprise Agencies.

Its chief executive George Derbyshire said: "At a time when the news is dominated by the problems of big business, it's important we remember – and celebrate – the contribution the 4.5 million small businesses make to communities up and down the country."
