Search begins for new LEP director

THE search has begun to find someone to spearhead the Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership.

Candidates have until March 5 to make themselves known for the role.

Interviews are expected to be held towards the end of March.

As reported in the YEP in December, £100,000 has been allocated to the role although it is understood the salary is in the region of £80,000.

The LEP director will have to work with the LEP Board and Local Authority Leaders Board to make sure that the partnership’s plans work.

It is a one year contract and could be part-time, full-time or on secondment.

A spokesman for the Leeds City Region said: “Our Local Enterprise Partnership has ambitious plans to drive growth across a diverse business base which includes world-leading sectors, such as finance and business services, advanced engineering/manufacturing, healthcare and environmental technologies, creative, digital and tourism industries.

“Our priorities include improving transport, skills, infrastructure, overseas trade, innovation, low carbon economy and creating sustainable jobs for the benefit of local people.

“To deliver our ambitious agenda we are now seeking to appoint a director.”

The spokesman added: “[The LEP director] needs to be a strategic thinker with experience of business and government, with excellent judgement, political awareness and communication skills. You have credibility with senior decision-makers and can demonstrate a proven track record of success in economic growth.

“You will work directly with the LEP Board and Local Authority Leaders Board to ensure that the LEP’s plans are delivered.”

In December, Neil McLean, the LEP chairman, pictured, told the YEP that he would like to see someone in the position by April 1 but admitted that was optimistic.

He added: “The LEP has done a lot already but the feeling is that we want an individual who can give it more focus.”
