Marilyn's venture across the Pennines
INTERNATIONALLY-renowned Yorkshire divorce lawyer Marilyn Stowe is to launch a new practice across the Pennines.
Since launching her practice in a converted Leeds cobbler's shop 26 years ago, Mrs Stowe has built a formidable reputation, earning the nickname "The Barracuda".
Now, as head of Harrogate-based Stowe Family Law LLP, she is one of the country's most sought-after divorce lawyers, attracting clients from around the world and handling cases involving assets of more than 100m.
Her 40-strong team includes 16 lawyers plus two forensic accountants who specialise in tracking down hidden assets.
With a portfolio which includes footballers' wives and aristocrats, her move to the Cheshire town of Hale has been prompted by client demand.
Mrs Stowe was the first female solicitor outside London to be elected a Fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.
She was appointed the first chief assessor and chief examiner of the Law Society's Family Law Panel in 1998, and is a member of the Legal Advisory Group to the Law Commission.
"The firm has built up a strong reputation from its Yorkshire base and this milestone will further boost our profile nationally," said Mrs Stowe.
Mrs Stowe is the author of two comprehensive guides to surviving divorce, Divorce – A New Beginning and No Looking Back.
She has also advised on a convincing matrimonial story line for duplicitous, fictional businessman Matt Crawford in BBC Radio 4's The Archers.
