Leeds uniform firm's net sales create 20 jobs
A LEEDS MP has praised the growth of a Bramley firm which makes school uniforms and sells them over the internet – a strategy that has created 20 new jobs.
Leeds West MP Rachel Reeves presented awards to staff completing their apprenticeships at Perry Uniform, which has grown fast over two years and is on target to achieve annual sales of 2.5m.
Ms Reeves said: "I am impressed by the enthusiasm shown by all the staff and the importance with which the company clearly regards training."
A historic Leeds tailoring firm, Perry Uniform recently completed a 300,000 re-location to Bramley, which created 23 new jobs in a complex that houses production, a design studio and sales call centre.
The 38-strong workforce ranges from teenage school leavers to experienced garment workers and all can interchange production tasks.
The company has further expansion plans for its customer service department.
Managing director Bernard Bunting said: "We operate in a cut-throat market but our value-added services set us apart.
"Most importantly we are available 364 days of the year and carry stock all year round, not just during the peak back to school period.
"We use hard wearing, long lasting cloth milled in Yorkshire; we embroider school crests on garments to establish a sense of belonging and identity that reflects the ethos and heritage of the school.
"Additionally, we sew in personalised embroidered name tapes and offer free delivery and returns of orders direct to home or office. This year we have also introduced a repair and alteration service."
