It’s the business for women

A YORKSHIRE organisation determined to help more women achieve top business jobs has vowed to expand nationally.

It aims to have 1,000 women members by the end of this year.

The Two Percent Club will launch the initiative in major cities across the UK. Launches in Manchester and Edinburgh are scheduled in the next few months.

The Two Percent Club is aimed at women already working at the senior corporate level who want to advocate the issue of women in senior executive roles and increase their female networks.

It also aims to create a group of female role models who represent all sectors who can then inspire others.

Heather Jackson, founder of the Two Percent Club, a strand of An Inspirational Journey which promotes the role of women in boardrooms, said: “We are seeing the fruits of our collective hard work with women now accounting for 15 per cent of FTSE 100 boards. Businesses across the UK understand that a better gender-balanced business is a better business.

“We now have a proven model that supports both business and the individual to achieve more.

“We are responding to a clear demand from business and the national expansion of the Two Percent Club will mean more women get the support they need to achieve senior positions.”

She added: “The Two Percent Club was founded in the knowledge that a business with more women in senior roles makes business sense, and discussing the issues that hold women back is a positive step in understanding how women and men can work together to address this issue.”

The expansion move was announced during the organisation’s gala dinner at Rudding Park in Harrogate.

The dinner, sponsored by Ernst & Young, saw Eleanor Mills, associate editor of the Sunday Times, address an audience of senior business people.

An Inspirational Journey is supported by the Royal Bank of Scotland.
