Food for thought for entrepreneurs

A new support service for entrepreneurs in the food and drink industry is being launched in North Yorkshire.

A programme of workshops begins this month and advice will be provided on planning, legislation, finance and marketing as well as the more specialist areas of health and safety in food, VAT, food law, and cost pricing for food ingredients.

The project is being launched by Business Link York and North Yorkshire, one of four Business Links in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

Business Link is funded through regional development agency, Yorkshire Forward.

Competitors

North Yorkshire has a thriving food and drinks industry which is expanding to meet growing demand.

Business Link food adviser, John Devos, said: "The food and drink industry can be hugely rewarding if you get it right but you must be one step ahead of your competitors.

"As part of this dedicated programme, people can get specialist support by having one-to-one meetings with an experienced adviser, have the opportunity to meet with other business owners, and can gain access to other useful networking opportunities.

"We are also providing a specialist food business start-up training programme of eight workshops that covers all the essential aspects of running a food and drink business."
