Focus on advantages for employers of offering apprenticeships
As you may have read in our previous columns, The Leeds Skills Board hopes to simplify a number of initiatives to develop links between education, young people and the city's employers.
One issue constantly experienced by businesses in Leeds and members of Leeds Chamber of Commerce is the time-consuming and difficult task of recruiting people with relevant skills.
Apprenticeships are high on the Government's skills agenda and are an effective solution for employers to tackle skills gaps.
Apprenticeships offer you the opportunity to train and equip an individual with specific skills tailored to your business needs, with the training paid for by Government.
The scheme is also an opportunity to see a potential employee in action before making a long-term commitment.
According to recent feedback from our members, it appears that the current process of recruiting an apprentice is both confusing and time-consuming for businesses.
Therefore, Leeds Chamber has teamed with career development organisation igen Future Pathways to simplify the process and provide a fast track route to recruiting an apprentice.
Apart from reducing paperwork and swiftly supplying you with CVs of candidates to interview, igen Future Pathways will provide additional support for employers for the duration of the programme, while the new employee settles in.
To find an apprentice with the right skills for your business, contact Malin Sandell at the Chamber on (0113) 247 0000 or e-mail malin.sandell@leedschamber.co.uk
