Duo win ethical info site award
A STUDENT and a former student of Leeds University have won a national award for their new business.
Ethical Community helps consumers find ethical products and puts small-scale suppliers in touch with potential customers.
Its planned website, www.
ethicalcommunity.com, will provide those interested in ethical produce with a place to learn more about the products and the people behind them.
It is run by Liam Patterson, 21, a current student and graduate Jason Dainter, 24.
The project has won a prestigious Shell Livewire Grand Ideas award.
"Consumers want ethical products, but there's a lot of conflicting information out there about what's considered ethical and what isn't," said Mr Dainter.
Effectively
"And there's a lot of great ethical products out there, but some suppliers, in particular smaller concerns, lack the tools and resources to communicate effectively with their customers. What Ethical Community will do is provide a platform for shoppers to learn not only about products, but also about the people and story behind them."
Mr Dainter graduated in 2005. Liam Patterson is studying Environment and Business.
In 2008 he was awarded an enterprise fellowship to help pursue his business ideas.
The Shell Livewire award recognises the potential of Ethical Community and has also provided the partners with 1,000 to develop their business.
