Co-op sells optician shops

THE Scrivens Group is expanding into Leeds with the acquisition of Leeds Co-operative Society's opticians' division.

The company, which is based in Birmingham and has 134 branches nationwide, is taking over the Co-op's three stores in the city – in Beeston, Headingley and Hunslet.

Keith Willis, managing director of Scrivens, said: "The acquisition will enhance our presence in the region and allow us access to the optical retail market in Leeds for the first time."

Scrivens was founded in 1938 by Solomon Scriven and remains a family run business. Hearing care was first introduced to the group 50 years ago and now operates under the brand name, The Hearing Company.
