THE property company behind the £350m Trinity Leeds development has teamed up with a construction industry body.

Land Securities, which also owns the White Rose Shopping Centre, will be working with Construction Leeds.

Construction Leeds works with developers, contractors and sub-contractors on major construction projects to ensure they meet the needs of local residents and businesses by addressing employment issues, training needs and business development.

Construction Leeds project director Rob Wolfe, said: “Having Land Securities as a member means a great deal to us. It illustrates their commitment to ensuring that their current and future developments are beneficial to the communities in which they operate, creating jobs and contracts for local people and businesses.

“Working with their team, we will engage with the supply chain to employ local people, train the existing workforce, offer experience to young people and enthuse the workforce of the future.

“Social responsibility is a high priority at present and with Land Securities on board we can continue to build on our current momentum and ensure that developments in the public and private sector throughout Leeds and the wider Yorkshire region create opportunities for the communities that surround them.”

Land Securities’ portfolio director Gerald Jennings said: “At a time when jobs are at a premium we want to ensure that, wherever possible, people who live locally are able to access any employment opportunities that are created through either our development activities or when new retailers open or increase their presence within our centres.

“We are already working closely with Construction Leeds on the Trinity Leeds scheme and at White Rose, where we have planning permission for 47,000 sq ft of new space for existing retailers and new restaurants.”
