Building sites safety warning
LOCAL construction company Morgan Ashurst is asking parents and teachers to help highlight the dangers of children playing on or near construction sites as the festive holiday approaches..
As part of their ongoing safety awareness campaigns, Morgan Ashurst, which has local offices at Garforth, Leeds, wants the construction industry and parents to work together to alert youngsters to the dangers posed by construction sites.
According to the Royal Society for the Protection of Accidents (RoSPA), children under 16 are the victims in 20 per cent of occupational accidents and estimates show that half a million children a year are taken to hospital after accidents on work sites.
"Building sites may look like fun places to explore but it's vital to reinforce the message that they are dangerous places not playgrounds and playing on or around them can have fatal consequences," says Chris Brown, Morgan Ashurst area director for Leeds. "We all need to work together to ensure children's safety."
Chris adds: "Education is one of our busiest sectors and the company is keen to highlight this holiday safety message."
