Building products firm sees 48pc surge in export sales

LEEDS'S Everbuild Building Products Ltd, the UK and Ireland's largest independent manufacturer of sealants, adhesives, fillers and building chemicals, is today reporting a substantial rise in exports.

The Leeds-based company has experienced a 48.6 per cent increase in export sales in the past 12 months to a value of 3.5m per annum.

With the value of the pound falling in the past year, a growing number of customers in countries from New Zealand to Costa Rica are purchasing Everbuild's British-made products.

Exports have formed a major part of Everbuild's business for the past five years with continuous growth that has led to its production workforce doubling to 150.

Established in 1994, Everbuild serves the construction, building maintenance, plumbing and DIY sectors.

With a turnover of 47m, the company has rapidly become a leading supplier to building merchants and construction industry distributors.

Its UK business is also benefitting from the low value of the pound as British-based companies turn their backs on, what are now, more expensive products procured in Euros.

Managing director David Seymour said: "The slump in the value of sterling has been a real sales boost for Everbuild with a growing export demand from across Europe.

"The construction industry has been forced to become exceptionally careful about its purchasing, both at home and abroad.

"Everbuild has always been quick to adapt and is meeting the challenge from international businesses taking advantage of the value of the pound and from UK firms who are now seeing Europe-made products as much more expensive."

UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) has played a role in the export success of Everbuild, working with the company to identify new target markets, research opportunities, establish contacts and build relationships.

Andrew Lister, UKTI international trade adviser for West Yorkshire, cites the company as an excellent role model for other businesses to follow.

He commented: "It's pleasing to track the sustained success of Everbuild overseas, particularly in new markets like Singapore and the Caribbean."
