Builders get free training to keep up skills through recession
FREE training and advice is being offered to the building industry in Yorkshire to help maintain skills during the recession.
The National Home Builders' Council (NHBC) is offering the training to local home building firms.
In the last three months new home registrations across Yorkshire were down 57 per cent on the same period last year and many firms have cut training and development budgets as a result.
Professional institutions the Royal Institute of British Architects, the Association of Building Engineers, and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors recommend a number of hours of training per year to keep up to date .
Under its initiative, NHBC is organing short courses across the country covering construction best practice, building control, engineering and health and safety.
Tom Anderson, regional training manager, said: "It important to do what we can to support industry skills because the industry will pick up, and builders will need to be prepared. Time is precious for those builders still working so we have designed our sessions to allow attendees to get as much relevant advice and training as possible in a short timeframe.
