Bid to make firms social media savvy
A NEW initiative offering a qualification in social media is to be launched next month - and it claims to be the only one of its kind in Yorkshire.
An open evening highlighting the Social Media Academy will take place on March 6 where businesses can find out more.
The Academy will offer the only City and Guilds-accredited NVQ in Social Media in Yorkshire, say organisers.
The course will be delivered by digital agency Cat Creative Media and it is aimed at business owners or marketing teams.
It aims to equip people with the skills to make the most of the free social media platforms.
The course will consist of six half-day classroom sessions and 20 tasks to complete.
The open evening will be at Cat Creative Media’s offices at United Business Centres, Calder Park, Wakefield.
Cat Yaffe, content director at Cat Creative Media, said: “Social media is a whole new ball game for businesses. Get it right and it can pay dividends in terms of your relationships with customers, your reputation and, ultimately, your sales. But the consequences can be dire if you get it wrong.
“Businesses can’t just opt out of social media. Your customers are already talking about you. The Social Media Academy will fill the gap in training that our 2011 survey uncovered as well as giving businesses the skills to join in that conversation, along with the confidence that an accredited course brings.”
Research by Cat Creative Media last year found that Yorkshire businesses spend around five hours per week on Twitter, Linkedin and Facebook but 84 per cent have no social media strategy, with 54 per cent saying they wanted to learn more.
Mark Skeet, head of tech at Cat Creative, said: “The job market is tough out there so the course is also suitable for people wanting to add to their CV, either through formal recognition of their existing skills or by adding critical new ones.”
