Apprentice Jamie gets a great start to his career
APPRENTICE Jamie Dixon has kicked off his career in construction at Land Securities’ £350m Trinity Leeds development.
The 19-year-old, pictured, currently studying for a BSc in civil engineering one day a week at Leeds Metropolitan University, has been working with construction firm Laing O’Rourke.
The former Penistone Grammar School pupil was inspired to become an engineer after seeing Laing O’Rourke employees working at his place of learning.
He said: “I couldn’t be working on a bigger or better project in terms of my professional development and the experience that I am gaining here is absolutely incredible.
“To be able to gain your professional qualifications while working on an iconic and impressive development like Trinity Leeds is really tremendous and gives me a fantastic start.”
His work so far as part of Laing O’Rourke’s Apprenticeship Plus programme has included overseeing the construction of retaining walls.
