A labour exchange for your talent

BUSINESS brains and community workers are getting ready to present the ultimate swap shop – a skills exchange in Leeds.

The Wheeler Hall at Leeds Cathedral will be the venue for the talent showcase on Tuesday, March 16.

No skill is ruled out of the swap – anyone with a talent and a passion for their subject can share it.

The skill could be anything from cake-making, gardening, golf or carpentry to computer and business skills.

Visitors can showcase their own skills, and try out taster sessions in dozens of others.

Among the big business names and organisations presenting at the Leeds SkillSwap will be Yorkshire Bank, Job Centre Plus, Leeds Community Foundation and West Yorkshire Police.

They will team up with health and education workers, community teams, business experts, artists and experts from dozens of fields to show the words Britain's Got Talent "are not restricted to the stage or TV screen".

Caroline Wynn-Davies, SkillSwap project manager, explained: "We want the event to be as fun as possible with everyone getting the chance to experience new activities and maybe give them a try."

The idea behind the SkillSwap, say its organisers, is to "encourage the transfer of skills and knowledge between groups in a skills exchange with a difference".

The Leeds SkillSwap project is one of four similar days being held in Yorkshire and Humber with funding from the Learning Revolution Transformation Fund.

Following the events in Leeds, Bradford, Hull and Sheffield, the project will culminate in a celebration at the Royal Armouries at the end of the month.

The SkillSwap sessions are free and open to all. To book, call Trish Rogers on 0113 2058200 or email info@bitcskillswap.org.uk.
