WORK HAS started on a hi-tech transformation of the landmark clock tower at the Yorkshire Evening Post’s former Wellington Street home.

The tower, which is the only part of the five-acre site still standing, is being reclad and wired up so it can be used to show digital marketing images.

The £250,000 system is due to go live in the next week to 10 days, with Yorkshire Building Society in place as the first advertiser.

Plans have been drawn up for a wider redevelopment of the site that would include three detached office buildings and a 200-unit residential complex.

The YEP moved to new headquarters on Whitehall Road in 2012.
