A PENSIONER suffered an horrific injury when thieves used a screwdriver to prize a tight-fitting gold bangle from her wrist after conning their way to her home in Leeds.

The 66-year-old woman was left with a gaping wound on her wrist following the brutal robbery in the Greenthorpe Hill area of Wortley.

It happened after the pensioner allowed two men into her home who had knocked on her door claiming to be police officers.

Once inside they forced her onto a sofa and searched the house.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “This brave lady tried to phone the police while they were there so they cut the phone line. When they demanded the PIN numbers for her bankcards she defiantly refused.

“Worst of all, they stole a tight-fitting gold bangle from her arm by forcing it off with a screwdriver.”

Anyone with information about the incident, which happened between 6.30pm and 7pm on Thursday January 15, is asked to call police on 101.
