Blaze at Ossett Town Hall

FIRE crews dealt with a blaze in the clock tower at Ossett Town Hall this morning.

The clock tower is currently undergoing renovation by Wakefield Council to repair a leak.

A workman alerted fire crews just before 11.30am after the blaze started as he was using a heat gun to strip away old paint from wooden timbers in the tower.

Paul Graham, watch manager at Ossett Fire Station, said two crews attended the incident and the fire - which caused minor damage – was quickly extinguished.

Mr Graham added: “It could have been a lot worse if the workman hadn’t acted and called us as quickly as he did.”
