Biker dies in Leeds road smash

A biker died in a crash with a car being driven by an elderly man on the outskirts of Leeds.

The 41-year-old was on a white Honda CBF that hit a silver Alfa Romeo on the B1222 near Gorse Lane, Newthorpe, Sherburn in Elmet at about 4pm on Thursday.

He was confirmed dead at the scene.

The 73-year-old who was driving the car was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with a serious injury to his hand.

The road was closed for several hours. Police are now appealing for anyone who saw either vehicle before the collision or who witnessed the crash to contact them.
