An artist who auctioned her life’s work for charity got to see first hand where the money would be put to use at the Leeds Cancer Research UK Centre.

Dewsbury textile artist Shirley Ross organised the auction of 250 pieces of art by 35 professional artists in May, after battling breast cancer herself. The sale, Art for Life, raised £11,000, which will fund research at the St James Hospital-based research centre.

Chloé Williams, Cancer Research UK Local Fundraising Manager, said: “We have the technology and the knowledge to conquer cancer; we just need the funds to turn it into real-life treatments. £11,000 is a phenomenal amount to have been raised.”
