Matt Hughan, head of recruitment at Sky Betting & Gaming, spoke to Digital City about some of the people at the heart of the company’s success.

We couldn’t do what we do without our amazing and talented people, who number over 1,000 and over half of them are technologists.

Our tech challenges are massive, which means that we attract the very best technologists and we’re recruiting for, amongst other roles, DevOps engineers and Software Engineers in Test.

Both these roles involve working with diverse toolsets and bleeding-edge tech in an agile and experimental environment.

DevOps engineering is a relatively new function offered by few companies and entails the delivery and maintenance of highly available web applications and sites.

You can read about the experiences of one of our DevOps graduate engineers on the SB&G Engineering Blog.

Our software engineers in test lead the charge with our automation testing approaches and solutions, using new and innovative testing tools like Appium, Calabash, Codeception and Selenium and get involved with new ideas from the word ‘go’.

Leeds is not only a great place to live, being well connected by road, rail and air, with beautiful countryside on its doorstep and far cheaper housing than London, but also a fantastic city in which to build a tech career. According to Tech Nation 2016, the city has a digital GVA of £671m, with employment in this sector growing by seven per cent between 2011 and 2014 and SB&G are proud to be at the forefront of Yorkshire’s digital revolution.
