YORKSHIRE was on flood alert today as heavy rain continued to take its toll on the county.
More than an inch of rain fell in the Broad Acres yesterday, with more wet weather expected today and tomorrow.
The Environment Agency had flood warnings in place today for the River Aire at Apperley Bridge and Esholt.
Properties on the River Wharfe from Addingham downstream to Tadcaster were reported to be at risk.
Flooding in the Outwood area of Wakefield was causing delays of up to 30 minutes on many local train services.
A replacement bus service was in operation today between Leeds and Wakefield Westgate stations.
Services between Wakefield Kirkgate and Barnsley were likely to be affected until midday.
Sporting fixtures also fell victim to the weather, with all of this weekend's football, rugby and cricket matches on council-owned pitches in Kirklees being called off.
The third day of Yorkshire's County Championship cricket match against Sussex at Scarborough was washed out yesterday without a ball being bowled.
Further heavy showers are forecast tomorrow, with the wet weather expected to continue well into next week.
