Leeds girl waltzes in to TV final limelight
By Paul Robinson
IT'S an SOS with a difference – and one that could send talented Sadie Flower twirling towards Strictly Dance Fever glory.
The twinkle-toed 19-year-old, from Methley, Leeds, will take to the floor in front of millions of TV viewers tonight for the final of the hit BBC1 programme.
And today her friends and family urged Yorkshire Evening Post readers to get behind their girl with the rallying cry: "Support Our Sadie!"
The dancing queen's dad David said: "We've got pretty much everything crossed at the moment – we're so proud of her.
"We couldn't be more grateful for all the backing she's been getting from people up here. Let's just hope it all turns out for the best."
Public
Sadie and her competition partner Joseph Hall are one of three couples hoping to land this evening's first prize of £50,000 and a place in a West End touring musical.
The winner will be decided by a combination of judges' scores and the all-important public vote – which is where fans back home in the White Rose county come in.
Speaking en route to an appearance on the Richard and Judy show yesterday, Sadie said: "I'm quite nervous – but I'm also determined to enjoy myself.
"This is my chance to follow my dreams, so I want to make the most of it.
"It's going to be strange once everything's over. I won't know what to do with my Saturday nights!"
The part-time receptionist and mobile nail technician admitted she was still on a high after an emotional trip back to Leeds earlier this week.
Sadie and her fellow contestants dropped in at the White Rose Centre on Tuesday as part of a whistle-stop tour of the country – and the local lass was given a reception any pop star would have been pleased with.
"I couldn't believe it," she said today. "Everywhere I looked there was someone that I knew – I haven't stopped thinking about it since."
In tonight's show, Sadie and Joseph will be performing a street dance and the lindy hop, one of their most popular routines from the contest's earlier rounds.
