She was the first to discover the magical world of Narnia in the back of a wardrobe. Now Georgie Henley – who plays Lucy Pevensie in the cinema blockbusters of CS Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia, is set to charter new territory.
Georgie, 12, from Ilkley is to host an exclusive storytelling event that will be screened in cinemas across the country on Sunday, June 29, two days after the latest film, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, goes on general release.

The Brad
ford Grammar School pupil will perform a 15-minute reading of the previously unreleased book Prince Caspian: Fight for the Throne before the film version is screened.

A nationwide audience of around 12,000 will see Georgie as the latest high-definition digital technology is used to beam the recital into all 49 Vue cinemas across the country, including the cinemas at Kirkstall and The Light in Leeds city centre.

Georgie, an official spokesman for the National Year of Reading, said: "I am thrilled to be taking part in this year's National Year of
Reading, and in particular to be doing the special Prince Caspian reading.

"I love books, and am excited to share my interest with young people through these special screenings."

In the latest film adaptation of Lewis' Narnia books, Georgie reprises her role as Lucy in The Chronicle of Narnia: Prince Caspian, the sequel to 2005's box office hit The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

Georgie's recital of selected passages from chapter nine in the book will be screened with still images from the film as well as illustrations from the book.

The chapter describes an exciting moment in the story where the Narnians and the Telmarine Army are engaged in fierce battle, and ends with the triumphant return of Aslan.

All ticket holders will also receive a free copy of the book Prince Caspian: Fight For the Throne, which is not available from any UK retailers.

Recalling the tough filming schedules for the films, Georgie said: "It is quite tiring and it was a bit overwhelming at first, but everyone is doing everything they can to help, so it's cool.

"Lucy is quite a lot like me in a way so it was very easy to slip into her character. Lucy's the youngest of the four Pevensie brothers and sisters in the stories and nobody takes her opinions seriously as the story begins. When she opens this wardrobe, she's in a new world and she feels as though her feelings mean something there."

Tickets for the event, which begins at 11.30am, are on sale now and can be purchased at www.myvue.com or by calling 08712 240 240 or directly from participating cinemas.
