CHRIS Moyles was flabbergasted to see organisers had secretly arranged for his parents to present him with a radio industry "Oscar".
THE Leeds-born Radio 1 DJ, pictured, won a Sony Gold for best Breakfast Show at the Sony Radio Academy Awards and his mother, Vera, told him on stage: "This was a big surprise to Chris tonight but it was no surprise to us. We are very proud to present this award. We know how hard he worked for this over the years and we love you very much."

Moyles' father, also called Chris, said: "Eight million listeners know he deserves it."

The DJ dismissed the Sony Awards as "rubbish" and "boring" despite winning an award. He said: "Radio 1 won nothing until now. I should get a pay rise."

He said the Sonys had awarded some "dubious" winners in the past and added: "I feel like I've won a lifetime achievement."

He said: "Before all of us got together the Radio 1 breakfast show...oh it was dreadful."
