It was the day the King met the Lord Mayor.

American Elvis impersonator Shawn Klush, who has been named the World's Greatest Elvis, showed off his blue suede shoes to Lord Mayor of Leeds Coun Frank Robinson.

The King of Rock and Roll was in town to discuss the possibility of a big show in Leeds next year.

The singer is at Bolton Arena tomorrow with other Elvis tribute acts and a Leeds businessman is hoping a similar show can take place in the city.

Keith Lowe, of Calverley, said: "I am hoping to bring Shawn to Leeds within the next nine months. Temple Newsam is the venue that could cater for it very well."

Mr Lowe regularly supports the Lord Mayor's charities and introduced Coun Robinson to Mr Klush, who won the BBC's World's Greatest Elvis programme and has been approved by Elvis's estate.

Mr Klush said the meeting had been fantastic. "I would like to come back, providing everybody will have me."
