US peace activist is in Leeds

A LEADING peace campaigner from the United States will be among speakers at a public meeting in Leeds Civic Hall tonight.
Jackie Cabasso is a committee member of United for Peace and Justice, the largest anti-war coalition in the US.

She will speak at the meeting entitled "Opposing US Missile Defence – A Yorkshire Perspective."

Two military bases in Yorkshire – the US intelligence gathering operation at Menwith Hill, near Harrogate, and RAF Fylingdales on the North York Moors – are involved in America's space-based military defence system.

Also speaking will be Liberal peer Lord Wallace of Saltaire, Leeds North East Labour MP Fabian Hamilton, Hemsworth Labour MP Jon Trickett and campaigner Lindis Percy.

The meeting starts at 7pm.
